Bainimarama's LIES to Adrian Stevanon - Remember this interview?

On Wednesday April 15, 2009, Adrian Stevanon (AS) of ONE News spoke with Frank Bainimarama (FB), the self-appointed PM of Fiji. Here are snippets of that interview to jolt Bainimarama's mind of his lies, which are clearly documented for future use.

AS: Do you think you have the support of your people?
FB: I certainly have the support of the people, yes.
AS: How do you know that?
FB: Well, no one has come up and opposed it, Adrian.YEAH RIGHT. THEY DIDN'T COME UP TO OPPOSE YOU PHYSICALLY, AS IN A PEACEFUL PROTEST MARCH BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T ALLOW THEM TO WITH YOUR PER. BUT NOW A NON-VIOLENT WAY IN THE FORM OF A PETITION HAS REACHED YOU. DO YOU NOW SEE THE OPPOSITION YOU TRIED TO MUZZLE?
AS: But there have been people who have been speaking out in the media and they have ended up being locked up.
FB: Adrian. The people who have been speaking out, I can count them on the fingers of one hand, I'm not saying there's five of them, but there are few of them. But we have banded together on this campaign of change that we need to bring about to Fiji so that we can have a better Fiji.
AS: What does a better Fiji look like?
FB: Hopefully when we finish this exercise, we would have a Fiji without any racist policies, that's one thing. The reforms that we are going to come up with, including electoral reform, it will be a non-communal base of voting... so we will get rid of the race issue. And we will try and get rid of the corruption issues that have been rife in Fiji.
AS: Ok, Commodore, why couldn't you accept the ruling from the Appeal Court that found your government illegal?
FB: Well, the Excellency has made up his mind. He has abrogated the constitution because the ruling would have forced us to go to elections, elections in the old system, which we don't like. We don't want to go down that path again, we don't want an election based on communal voting. THERE YOU GO AGAIN VOREQE, TRYING TO PASS THE BUCK TO AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WHO CLEARLY DIDN'T HAVE THE TWO BOBS UP THERE TO MAKE UP HIS MIND; YOU AND YOUR MILITARY COUNCIL DID THAT FOR HIM.
We don't want an election based on race. We want to move away from that. I'm sure all the Kiwis wouldn't want to go down that path too, so and we don't want to go down that path. If we were to accept the decision, we would have gone down that path. YOU SHOULD HAVE ACCEPTED THE DECISION VOREQE BECAUSE YOU AND YOUR GOONS ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW!
Adrian, you should do me a favour and find out from the three judges how is that they came up with a 52-page judgment in 24 hours? We thought it was going to take them three weeks to sit together and come up with this judgement. I think it's quite clear this judgement was written long before they got here. They made up their minds before they got here. HUH! SO YOU WANT TO ALSO DO THE JUDGES' JOB? YOUR WISHFUL THINKING FOR BUYING TIME DIDN'T ACTUALLY PAN-OUT HUH. SO, START WORKING ON BUYING TIME BECAUSE SOON AND VERY SOON WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THE DEMOCRATIC FIJI WE HAVE ALWAYS WANTED, MINUS YOUR GUNS!

AS: You spoke this morning about a survey that was done. Can you explain how you know you have the support of the people?
FB: We have the charter process. The charter process came up with a 64% majority for the changes we have put forward to them to endorse. So on that note, we know what they want.YEAH RIGHT! YOU MEAN THE COERCED 64%. NOW YOU KNOW THAT 640, 000+ PEOPLE OF FIJI AT HOME AND ABROAD WERE DEFINITELY NOT THE ONES THAT ENDORSED YOUR CHARTER LIKE YOU HAVE LIED ABOUT HERE. 

AND ISN'T IT IRONIC THAT BAINIMARAMA'S 64% HAS TO HAVE A CONNECTION TO THE 640, 000+ NAMES ON THE PETITION IN TERMS OF THE NUMBER 64? HMMMMM... WHATEVER GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND VOREQE...AND YOUR 64 IS ALMOST UP!

 Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has today stressed that the government will make sure that the politicians from the SDL, Fiji Labour and NFP who are having secret meetings and are behind a claimed 600 thousand signature petition, do not return to power after the 2014 elections.

Commodore Bainimarama has labelled their plans as rubbish and he said he knows that some meetings have taken place at the SDL and NFP offices.

Official reply to democratic petition - TOILET PAPER! Is that your best reply ILLEGAL PM?

The ILLEGAL Prime Minister has today labelled the claimed petition of 600 thousand signatures to have elections in Fiji this year, as toilet paper. WOW! EVEN A PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENT CAN MAKE A BETTER CHOICE OF WORDS THEN THIS LOWLIFE VOCABULARY.

Following reports in NZ that a group has sent a letter to the Fiji government with the claimed petition asking that elections be held in 2010, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama believes the whole issue is farfetched.  DEMOCRATIC WAYS ARE NOT FAR-FETCHED VOREQE, BUT YOUR NEED TO BE IN POWER FOR LONG IS.

According to Radio NZ, a petition calling for elections to be held in Fiji this year has been submitted to the government in Suva.

The petition, which organisers claim has the support of more than 600,000 people, demands a return to democracy before the 2014 date planned by Commodore Bainimarama. GO DEMOCRACY! ME TUBU GA KO VITI!

One of the organisers, Suliasi Daunitutu said the leaders of the Fiji Labour, SDL and National Federation parties submitted a list of their members to be included in the petition. However it is not known whether these are just names or they include the people's signatures. VINAKA MR. DAUNITUTU!

Another person supporting this is a Vilisi Nadaku who claims that he has also written to the government to call elections this year. VINAKA MR. NADAKU!

However Commodore Bainimarama stresses that the government is focused on its objective and all these things will not change the lives of the people of Fiji. OF COURSE THEY WILL VOREQE BECAUSE IT'S THE CHOICE MADE BY THE PEOPLE! GET THAT IN YOUR THICK NUMBSKULL!

Christian Kachin group of Burma ready to fight for their ethical rights and freedom!

The sharp sound of loading and unloading weapons and the barked orders of the sergeant-major cut through the mountains of northern Burma as the young cadets are put through their morning drills.
Their discipline is good, their uniforms smart and there is little doubting their sense of purpose or patriotism towards the red and green flag with crossed machetes they proudly wear on their right shoulders.
They are the next generation of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), and say they are not afraid to be the generation that fights in a civil war many fear may soon be upon them.
"The Union of Burma was formed on the basis of equality for ethnic people, but there has been inequality throughout history and we are still being suppressed," said cadet Dashi Zau Krang.
He is 26 and has a degree in business studies, but says inequality has stopped him getting a good job and driven him to join the military.

The Kachin people say they suffer discrimination in Burma

But he is not afraid.
"The Burmese army may be the strongest in South East Asia, while we are very few, but God will help us to liberate our people to get freedom and equality. This is our responsibility," he said.
It is a war the Kachin people do not want and one they cannot win.
But their generals believe a 17-year ceasefire could soon end as a Burmese army deadline approaches, demanding the forces merge or disarm.
They have already refused, and although their leaders are still pushing for a political solution, their commanders are preparing for the worst when time runs out at the end of February.
"I can't say if there will be war for sure, but the government wants us to become a border guard force for them by the end of the month," said the KIA's Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Gam Shawng.
"We will not do that, or disarm, until they have given us a place in a federal union and ethnic rights as was agreed in 1947."
The KIA and its civilian organisation have been allowed to control a large swathe of northern Burma as part of a ceasefire agreement with the country's ruling generals.
Trade with China
They provide power, roads and schools funded by taxes on the brisk trade from China as well as the jade and gold mines and teak.
But now soldiers are being recruited, veterans are being recalled and retrained, and an ethnic army is preparing to fight perhaps the biggest military force in South East Asia.
On the car radio are freedom songs, and at one of the training camps a course in traditional dance is being run - cultural nationalism and propaganda is strong.
A BBC team travelled to an area in northern Burma controlled by the Kachin army and its civilian arm, the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO).
We were taken to training camps and outposts, but could not walk into Laiza town to talk to people on the street for fear of being seen by an extensive network of Burmese or Chinese government informers and spies.
It made forming a balanced view very difficult, but the determination and planning of the military was clear.
High on a vantage point above their headquarters, trenches are being dug and tree trunks are being hauled and hewn into gun turrets piled high with earth.
They can see the Burmese army positions from here and they know this will be just one of the front lines if fighting breaks out.
A well-oiled and highly polished large-calibre anti-aircraft gun is produced, standing on a tripod in a bunker overlooking the lush jungle valley.
Guerrilla war
The gleaming gun is a statement, a display for the visitors, but the small metal plane stencilled on the sights looks woefully optimistic.
They are organised and say they have heavy weapons, but we did not see them.
There are around two dozen ethnic groups in Burma, mostly scattered around its borders, and the biggest have been in various states of ceasefire or civil war over the past few decades.

Traditional Kachin dances now take on a military theme

The KIA is one of the biggest. Their commanders say it includes 10,000 regular troops and 10,000 reservists, but it is impossible to know for sure.
The Burmese army is huge. It has an air force of sorts and artillery, and the KIA knows the only way to survive will be to withdraw into the jungle and fight a guerrilla war of attrition.
But civil war would create tens of thousands of refugees and create regional instability.
"If we are attacked the other ethnic groups will support us, as they know the same could happen to them," Gen Gam Shawng explained.
The nearby Wa ethnic group has tens of thousands of troops and resources funded by drug smuggling, and we were told a deal with them had been agreed.
Whether civil war comes here is now up to the Burmese government.
If they use this election year to solve what they see as the "problem" of the ethnic groups they will have a fight on their hands, and the region will have to deal with the consequences.

Send child(ren) to school

This Fiji Times report begs the question - who is going to pay for ALL these "good initiatives"? In developed countries where such "free" textbooks and transport schemes are part of the elected government's programme, THE TAXPAYERS PAY HEFTY TAXES. Thus, the government is able to keep up with the developments needed by the people, as it is PAID FOR BY THEM since their PAYCHECKS are also in line with their tax bills.

Now, do we as a country have all these systems in place - employments that provide GREAT pay, thus, we're able to pay hefty taxes, which in return will be delivered back to us by such "free" schemes? As it is of now, we don't see any correlation to the LACK OF NATIONAL FINANCES to warrant such schemes as a long term solution. Because the interim regime members are busy building their little empires (e.g. new houses) for the public to have the appropriate finances that will determine that these grandiose schemes will be sustained in the long run.

CLOSE to 7000 students dropped out of the school system before they reached Form 6 in 2008, research has shown.

The data gathered by the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji (Fenc) showed that of the 21,072 students that enrolled into Class 1 in 1997, only 14,089 made it up to Form 6 in 2008.
About 34 per cent or 6983 students dropped out of school before they reached Form 6 in 2008.
The Ministry of Education confirmed these statistics, saying it was a "big" number which had to be arrested immediately by addressing issues that were promoting the trend.
The ministry said that as of 2008, there were between 203,000 and 205,000 students right across the country.
Data collated by Fenc revealed that in the four years to 2008:
* 2920 students dropped out of school between Class 1 and Class 4, and
* 863 students dropped out of school between Class 5 and Class 7.
Fenc national executive co-ordinator Irshad Ali said poverty was the main reason for the trend.
"We must invest in our children because they are our future," he said. Head of Education Filipe Bole agreed that financial difficulties was one of the reasons why parents were pulling their children out of school early.
He said another reason was the external examinations.
Mr Bole said external exams de-selected students from progressing to the next level.
He said numbers decreased because those who failed exams never returned to school.
"That is one of the main reasons why we have abolished examinations," Mr Bole said.
"In 2012, selection will be entirely based on internal assessments so hopefully, that'll have a big impact on students going forward.
"And any drop-out from 2012 will be the choice of parents and the students.
"This is also where the financial situation of parents will play a larger part where they will need to ensure their children are well-fed and clothed because (school) fees will be gone, textbooks will be the responsibility of the State and transport,"he said. PARENTS WILL FIRST NEED PAID JOBS FOR THESE (FEED AND CLOTHE CHILDREN) TO HAPPEN.
Mr Bole said this strategy was expected to be effective and more and more children would be able to attend school right up to Form 6 and Form 7.
"Parents will no longer have an excuse not to send their children to school," he said.
Mr Bole called on parents all over Fiji to encourage their children to attend school.
"They should have the mindset that education is a priority area. Children must go to school," he said.
He stressed the importance of parents looking after their children's health by ensuring they are fed and clothed well, and to assist them wherever possible with their school work.

PETITION

Ladies and Gentlemen, this morning Friday the 19th of February 2010, at 12.00 pm Canberra DST, a petition was handed over to the Interim Prime Minster, Mr. Voreqe Bainimarama. The petition was from Mr. Vilisi Nadaku, his wife Ana and their five children, demanding Bainimarama and his Interim government to return Fiji to the polls this year, 2010.

Accompanying the petition was a letter from me, and a list of people and organisations who endorsed and supported the Nadaku family's intiative, who took the brave and selfless step in informing Bainimarama and his government of our right, demand and entitlement.

This action I could say, is also supported by the UN Human Rights Council, with majority of its members agreeing to the fact, that Fiji has been deprived of fundamental human rights in its recent meeting in Geneva, to which they further commented through their respective representatives, that Bainimarama should restore the 1997 constitution, and return the country immediately to electons and a democratically elected government.

The number of people that are represented in the support of the Nadaku family came to a total of 685,936. To all of you who have put your names and photos to support your intensions, I would like to thank you for your loyalty to your country and its freedom. You have contributed immensely to the liberation of your homeland.

I would like to thank the Democracy Movement Chapters and their respective leaders and supporters. Let me remind you, that after being mocked for doing nothing but blogging, we have achieved a lot, not only in getting the World to sit up and take notice, but most importantly to take action. The three events that took place in the space of a week, (HRC, Vanuatu PIF, Petition) showed that “Truth” has decided to show itself, and it has exhibited its strength, its timing, significance and most importantly its desirability or value to human kind.

The petition has been sent to various high offices and entities for further exposure of the peoples' desire.

This localities include, UN HQ New York, EU, Commonwealth Secretariat, Political parties Head Offices (Fiji), Various embassies and High Commissions, Bloggs/Websites, NGOs, Academics in Fiji and abroad, ANU College of Asian Pacific Studies , Amnesty International and Churches.

That part done, we will await Bainimarama's response, and in the meantime, we will be putting a second part of the fight in motion. While I cannot disclose the nature of the actions we will take as yet, I can tell you that we will intensify our efforts and we are confident of volutary support, if the response to the petition is anything to go by.

I hope that the fight will now be of a more extreme degree, because the Regime will not be giving us our freedom cheaply. That said, I will remind one and all, they(military) have blood on their hands, and if we don't liberate the country for our children, then, we are guilty of the same offence.

A special mention for the President and members of the Melbourne Democracy Movement Chapter, for their “Lolo- Masumasu” every Tuesday since their conception. This fight cannot be won with mortal strength, we need Divine intervention, for a complete and through victory. From me to all of you, vinaka vakalevu.

Dear interim Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama,

We the Nadaku family, write to share our concerns regarding developments in Fiji since the December 5, 2006 military coup. We urge you to ensure the swift transition to an elected government, and call on you and your officials to immediately and publicly make a commitment that fundamental human rights will be respected.

We are particularly concerned that the longer the Interim Government delays the elections, the more we the people will suffer.
To deny us the right to elections is contrary to Article 21 of the UDHR which states;

“. Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
. Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country.
. The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections, which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.”

You are reminded that Fiji is a signatory to the Declaration.

We also note with concern the latest statement by Brigadier Driti who is quoted as saying that any act of civil disobedience by the people of Fiji will be dealt with “severely”.
These types of statements only create fear and do not promote a healthy relationship between the government of the day and its people.

We as a family unit are of the view that it is our right as citizens of Fiji to demand for elections this year, and for a swift return to parliamentary democracy.

We therefore urge your IG to make a commitment for elections to be held towards the end of the year, 2010.

We also urge the government of Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, The United Kingdom, Japan, The E.U, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Forum Secretariat and other relevant NGO’s and organizations to continue to pursue the process towards elections this year.

It is our humble opinion that this great nation of ours cannot, must not, continue on the path it is taking today. To do so would only prolong the pain and suffering of our people who cannot stand up to voice their opinion due the Public Emergency Regulations, and the censorship of the media.

Copies of this letter have been sent to the three paramount chiefs of the Kubuna, Tovata and Burebasaga Confederacies, the Methodist Church, Foreign Embassies in Fiji, NGO’s and human rights groups, democracy advocates worldwide, and Fijian Political Parties for their information.

We pray that you will do what is right and just for the people of Fiji, based on the four fundamental principles of democracy, government by the people, active participation of the people, protection of human rights and above all, the rule of law.

Education key to progress: Bainimarama (If ONLY it was true for you, huh)

Does the ILLEGAL PM ever listens to himself when he repeats what his speech writer writes? Really this man lacks so much depth with intellectual matters that the rest of us just shake our heads in disbelief that we have amongst us a wanna-be leader who is as dumb as it comes.

Every Fiji citizen - regardless of race, color or creed - has a right to and must be able to access quality education.YES. BUT EACH INDIVIDUAL SHOULD ALSO HAVE THE CAPABILITY AND THE POTENTIAL TO BE ABLE TO UNDERTAKE THE RIGOR PROVIDED IN HIGHER EDUCATION. THE COMMITMENT AND MOTIVATION NEEDED TO SUCCEED AND NOT JUST BE SUB-PAR LIKE THE BUNCH OF MILITARY LEADERS WE HAVE AT THE MOMENT.

This was the message from Fiji’s ILLEGAL Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama at the official opening of the Fiji National University (FNU) in Nasinu today. WHO HAS DENIED ANYONE OF US ACCESS TO EDUCATION? THE WORD QUALITY OBVIOUSLY TELLS ANOTHER STORY.

Addressing the 2000 plus guests, Bainimarama said “quality education must include honest and critical thinking”. WHAT!!!!!???? YOU KNOW THIS, SO, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU AND YOUR EDUCATION VOREQE? HONESTY? CRITICAL THINKING? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. SO, WHERE DO YOU ACTUALLY FAIR IN YOUR OWN DEFINITION OF QUALITY EDUCATION?

He contrasted the situation in Fiji with first world countries saying their progress and development “have been characterized by access to good education, free thinking and new ideas”. AHA! AND YOU VOREQE BY YOUR OWN ILLEGAL ACTS HAVE DENIED OUR CHILDREN DEVELOPMENT BY CURBING THEIR ACCESS TO FREE THINKING AND NEW IDEAS BY YOUR IMPLEMENTED P.E.R, MEDIA CENSORSHIP AND ABUSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

Bainimarama said those with distorted views about the human rights situation in Fiji ignore the fact that the government places a lot of emphasis on economic and social rights, as it does on civil and political rights. HUMANS RIGHTS ENCOMPASSES EVERYTHING INCLUDING INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS TO CHOOSE, WHICH BY YOUR OWN ILLEGAL ACTIONS YOU HAVE DENIED OTHERS WHO DON'T SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR IDEOLOGIES.

“We must cater for social and economic rights, and this includes the right to education,” he said. MAYBE YOU SHOULD REVIEW YOUR OWN EDUCATION TOO VOREQE.

Bainimarama said the amalgamation of the local education institutions under the FNU banner provides a unique opportunity where specialized expertise is made available under the one roof.

Under the new structure are four colleges – (1) College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (2) College of Engineering, Science and Technology (3) College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Services (4) College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies.

The University’s administrative headquarters will be based at the Fiji College of Advanced Education in Nasinu.

FIJI'S new Constitution will be in place by September, 2013.

This is the assurance Fiji's Ambassador to the European Union Peceli Vocea gave the Working Group of the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
While presenting the country report, Mr Vocea said this would give the people of Fiji a year to become familiar with its provisions before elections are held a year later.

He reiterated that work on the new Constitution would commence by September 2012.

"Consultation on the new Constitution will involve all the ordinary citizens of Fiji as well as civil society groups focusing on issues such as electoral reform, the size of the new parliament, the sustainability of a bi-cameral system, the term of office of a government and systems of accountability of government to the people," he said. IS THIS FOR REAL? DOES THIS MEAN THE SDL PARTY MEMBERS WILL ALSO BE INVOLVED IF THEY WANT TO. Mr Vocea said despite the abrogation of the 1997 Constitution, the respect and enjoyment of fundamental human rights in Fiji had not been affected nor did it affect the rule of law. MY OH! MY. THEN WHY THE P.E.R AND MEDIA CENSORSHIP?

He said critics had asked why work on the new constitution would not commence before September 2012. "The answer is very simple, at least to those who know and understand Fiji's history," he said. "Fiji has had a colonial history which created many anomalies and inequalities, the legacy of which resonates today.

"On each occasion that a new government has been voted into power, the old elite who benefited financially from the previous established government has been able to successfully destabilise the government and replace it with its own supporters and representatives." AGAIN, WHO ARE THESE OLD ELITE? CAN YOU NAME THEM, PLEASE? AND GIVE US EVIDENCE OF THEIR FINANCIAL GAINS, SO, WE CAN HOUND THEM AND GET BACK WHAT WAS OURS THAT THEY TOOK. Fiji Sun - Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will remain Commander of the Fiji Military Forces when he steps aside to allow for a general election in 2014.
Commodore Bainimarama will ‘relinquish’ the Prime Minister’s post but will remain at the helm of the military.
The Fiji Military Forces will keep the elected Government under the microscope. 

“What actually transpired was the Prime Minister saying the military will monitor whichever Government comes into play and regardless of whether he is there, the military will be there to monitor the Government,” he said.

Military regime to consider 'accepting' UNHRC recommendations - What!?

This report from the military regime backed FBCL speaks volume of the lack of respect of those running our country to the abyss. Hmmm...they will "...consider whether to ACCEPT the 116 recommendations..." What? You don't consider to accept recommendations when it comes to the issue of treating another human being with RESPECT! You have to do it if you have one ounce of RESPECT, INTEGRITY AND MORAL RESPONSIBILITY for the lives and the rights of those YOU DIDN'T GIVE BIRTH TO! How dare this people do this us, our children and our future. Well, every dog has its day...and to all these people, yours will come.

The Fiji government is now considering whether to accept the 116 recommendations made by the Human Rights Council’s working group, which reviewed Fiji’s human rights record in Geneva this week.

In his closing remark Ambassador Anasa Vocea says the working group was genuine in carrying out its work, where it didn’t finger point any of Fiji’s human rights records and also made some good advice. REALLY? THE WORKING GROUP DIDN'T POINT ANY FINGER AT THE REGIME'S HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES...NOW THAT'S A DREAM!

However, Australia continued to point out that Fiji lacks a good human rights record as it was constantly reminded by the working group to use the appropriate terminology when referring to States. GO OZZIE! GO!

The United Kingdom and the United States again were repeating their calls for an early return to parliamentary rule. YES. SO THEY CAN GIVE US THE AID THEY WANT TO GIVE FOR OUR DEVELOPMENT.

On the other hand, China, Russia, Mexico and the Philippines urged the international community to support the government’s roadmap to democracy. WHAT HAVE THESE COUNTRIES DONE FOR US EXCEPT MAYBE TO GIVE US LOANS THAT WILL BE THE BURDEN FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN TO PAY IN DAYS TO COME BECAUSE VOREQE AND HIS CHILDREN WON'T BE ABLE TO.

Thirty three countries commented on Fiji’s report. MOSTLY TO HIGHLIGHT THE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES BY THIS MILITARY REGIME AND THEIR CALL FOR VOREQE TO GIVE US BACK OUR COUNTRY, OUR JUDICIARY, OUR FREEDOM!

Funny how this illegal PM can say one thing and do another. All these grievances are becoming like they are because, get this - Voreqe, with his coup and reforms have in the process made us a nation of TELL-A-TALES, WHINERS and PROBLEM MAKERS instead of PROBLEM SOLVERS.

LAND ownership grievances had increased recently to become a widespread problem, according to Army Commander Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.

He made the comment while addressing a group of Yalobi villagers on the island of Waya in the Yasawa Group.
The villagers were concerned that a neighbouring beachfront property had been sold without their consent. Commodore Bainimarama advised the villagers to approach the proper authorities.
He said there had been numerous requests for government intervention in land disputes during his visits around the country.
Prior to the Yalobi Village visit, villagers of Namara in neighbouring Wayasewa had also sought help in resolving the Vomo Island ownership dispute.

"People need to follow the right channels; there are no short-cuts," he said. Yeah right! This from the man who didn't follow the right channel himself to voice his concern for a multi-party government he felt was doing wrong BY HIM!

Commodore Bainimarama said a lot of the bureaucracy had been smoothed out, making it easier for every individual or community to air grievances.
The villagers had told Commodore Bainimarama that a search of records revealed the land had been sold by individuals who were not members of their landowning unit. They claimed that one of the signatories to sales and purchase papers was a man who was from Nadi. They said traditional requests for return of the parcel of land had been turned down.

Rape and Treason committed "in good faith" - One and the same!

We have said this before and will continue to say it again (also the international community agree with us on this one), no matter how many "good deeds" Bainimarama's military regime continue to implement in and for our nation, they still don't have the elected right to do so because how they got to where they are was by FORCE!

Now, this is an interesting one. The operative word here is 'force.' In the recently revamped crimes decree, new additions have been included in the section about rape. This is great news for women and the vulnerable ones who have fallen victim or may fall victim to this degrading treatment.

Fiji Times reports - RAPE is an indictable offence under the new Crime Decree and carries a maximum term of life imprisonment. The Decree, which replaces the Criminal Penal Code, outlines other offences which, once deemed as indecent assault, are now defined as rape. Rape cases will no longer be tried in the Magistrates Court. Under the Penal Code, rape was defined as the forced penile penetration of the female organ.

Now let's look at Bainimarama's military regime in this light. In the same way RAPE is classified here as FORCED in any way or form on another human being, which carries the term of life imprisonment, we believe the same has to be applied to those who use guns to FORCE an elected government to cease running the machinations of government because they want to, get this:

70. (b)...point out in good faith errors or defects in the following, with a view to reforming those errors or defects—
(i) the Government of Fiji;
(ii) the Constitution of Fiji;
(iii) legislation of Fiji or another country;
(iv) the administration of justice of or in Fiji, or another country;

In their dubious way - do a CLEAN-UP on cooked-up ALLEGATIONS OF CORRUPTION!

This is very interesting indeed because if it is decreed that certain cirucumstances have to be considered when defining if someone (Bainimarama) acted "in good faith" to depose off an elected government then is some RAPE also committed "in good faith"? We don't think so.

If Section 70 of this decree is to be accepted as it is, then what is a purpose of having a court of law? If all sentences are spelt out as they are, even a Kindergartner can give sentences to criminals or alleged criminals in these cases.

When an individual DISRESPECTS another one's right to freedom, to choice, to liberty, to opportunity in any way or form, then that individual should be made accountable for his/her actions. 

The way we see it, an individual who uses a foreign object or body part to forcefully penetrate another commits RAPE and should be sentenced to life imprisonment. In the same breathe, we believe an individual or individuals who use GUNS to FORCEFULLY deny the rights to freedom of any kind for another individual also commits RAPE and should be sentenced to life imprisonment!

With this decree, the coup-to-end-all-coups bullcrap Bainimarama has been feeding us is only being further PERPETUATED by Section 70.

STOP THE MILITARY MENTALITY OF HAVING TO lord OVER US. WE DON'T WANT/NEED YOU TO DICTATE TO US. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

We want PEACE, FREEDOM and PROSPERITY for our children and grandchildren. Bainimarma et al, Just lord over your own people if that is what you want for them.

What act of TREASON is done "in good faith"?

The decree factory seems to be working around the clock and on overdrive these days. After the tirade by Bainimarama to the people of Kadavu on how after his elections in 2014, the new democratic government and the people of Fiji will still be under his brand of "democratic" rule (AKA- DICTATORSHIP) should be of GRAVE CONCERN to all who treasure and value the real ideals of a democracy. 

TRUE EVERLASTING FREEDOM! LIBERTY! POWER TO THE PEOPLE! 

Back to the subject at hand, we wish to question, what exactly is an act of treason that is done "in good faith"?

Fijivillage report: A new section is included under the Treason and other Offences Against Government Authority part of the Crimes Decree, and it mainly focuses on the court to have regard to which a conduct occurred including whether the person charged with an offence under this part conducted the act in good faith.

The section deals with the determination of certain elements of offences under the part of the decree which the court should take into regard.

Is this Bainimarama and his cohorts trying to tell us that his coup was done "in good faith", so, the "circumstances" in which his treasonous (illegal/dubious as provided in the Qarase vs Bainimarama Court of Appeal Judgment ABU0077 of 2008S) act took place had to be considered? Good faith for what? or for whom?  

Treason
 64.—(1) A person commits the indictable offence or resident, the person—
(c) causes harm to the President or the Prime Minister, or imprisons or restrains the President or the Prime Minister; (Didn't Bainimarama do this after his Dec. 5, 2006 coup to PM Qarase?)

Let's not beat around the bush on this one. Make it clear, good faith or not, WHEN A PERSON OR A GROUP USE GUNS TO DEMAND THAT AN ELECTED GOVERNMENT BE DEPOSED, IT SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN LAW, THAT THAT IS AN ACT OF TREASON. Period.

We know from our coup history that ONLY THE PEOPLE WITH GUNS OR ACCESS TO IT, have been the ONLY ONES who are perpetuating our country's UGLY coup culture. We have mentioned this before and will say it again - THE GUNS IN OUR MILITARY is the ROOT OF OUR PROBLEMS. Because even an intelligent person will be made a coward when they believe that it is only with the use of guns can they dictate to a nation of people. And more dangerous though, is when a group of UNDEREDUCATED people with guns believe they are heaven's answer to a problem that is NON-EXISTENT.

GUNS as we know is used to PROTECT ONE FROM ITS ENEMIES AND/OR MAIM AND KILL ENEMIES!

Fijivillage reports: Section 70 of the Treason part of the decree states that for the purposes of determining whether a person has intended that force or violence shall occur in the context of an offence under the Treason section, the court shall have regard to the context in which the conduct occurred, and whether the person conducted the act in good faith to show that the President, the Prime Minister, their advisers or a person responsible for the government of another country were mistaken in any of their counsels, policies or actions.

From the moment Bainimarama and the Fiji Military threatened the Fijian government, with GUNS in tow, their intention was to use FORCE! That is not something that should be decreed as ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR because IT IS NOT! It is BARBARIC and INHUMANE!

Fijivillage reports: Under the Treason Section of the Crimes Decree, the courts shall also take into account on whether the person acted in good faith to point out errors or defects in the government of Fiji, the constitution, legislation of Fiji or another country and the administration of justice of or in Fiji, or another country, with a view to reforming those errors and defects.

The court shall also have regard on whether the person charged with an offence under the Treason section is pointing out in good faith, any matters that are producing or having a tendency to produce feelings of ill-will or hostility between different groups, in order to bring about the removal of these matters.

LAME EXCUSE! Normal people use proper democratic channels like the vote of no confidence, courts of law and elections to point out errors or defects in a government. ONLY cowards and lunatic brandish GUNS at unarmed peaceful citizens to get what they want. Is that what our societal values have been dragged down to? To USE force to get what you want. You can't be hypocritical in your crimes decree to say, prostitutes and those who practice abortion have to pay for their crimes, but power-mongers who use guns ("in good faith") to depose an elected government should not.



Fijivillage reports: Meanwhile the statute of limitation of two years for the offence of treason is no longer in place after the Crimes Decree came into effect on Monday.

Under the Penal Code which is now repealed, a person could not be tried for treason, misprision of treason and instigating invasion, unless the prosecution is commenced within two years after the offence is committed.

Now there is a major change because in the past, police and prosecutors faced major difficulties and could not charge a person with treason or other treasonable offences if two years had lapsed after the offence was committed.
 
The two year limitation has been taken away under the Crimes Decree.

So, come elections after 2014 we can all take Bainimarama and his cohorts to court (like Chandrika Prasad) so, we can really make a better Fiji for our children and grandchildren free of military idiots who think their guns can allow them to make illegal acts "in good faith".

 Visitor arrivals down 7.8% in 2009 (from Fijilive- February 01, 2010 04:51:36 PM)

Despite the global recession, the Reserve Bank of Fiji is forecasting growth in various sectors including manufacturing, agriculture and forestry, wholesale and retail trade, hotels and restaurants, construction, real estate and mining.

This despite a drop in tourist visitor arrivals in 2009 where figures recorded by the Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics totaled 539,405 – a decline of 7.8 percent from the 2008 figures.

According to the Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) Economic Review report for January 2010, the decline is much narrower than what they had forecasted, mainly due to increased numbers in the latter part of 2009.

This was largely due to the introduction of new airlines and routes together with a strong advertising and promotional campaigns by Tourism Fiji.

Figures in the RBF report also showed that 29,703 ounces of gold was produced by Vatukoula Gold Mines Ltd up to November 2009, indicating a 38.7 percent increase from levels produced in the previous financial period.

The increase has been attributed to the upgrading and introduction of new plant and machinery at the mine, and diversification into surface mining by the company.

The RBF is forecasting further improvements in foreign reserves levels over the month of January, where liquidity is expected to reach $335 million by 28 January 2010.
